FOR RELEASE
Evening of Vaudeville at Enfield Shaker Museum's Stone Mill
Saturday, September 18, 2010 - 7:00 p.m.
Enfield, NH - Vaudeville has strong historic roots in the New England. There were many vaudevillians in the Upper Valley. Tourists would hop on the train, and local residents used to flock to their town centers to see the variety theater that was offered. Even the Shakers had their own forms of variety shows to entertain themselves. That tradition will be recreated in the 1849 Stone Mill of the Enfield Shaker Museum on Saturday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
Organized by Wally Borgen, who chairs the Events Committee for the Museum, the program includes comedy skits, musical comedy, sing-a-longs, and a few surprises for the audience.
Baked goods and cold drinks will also be for sale.
"This is old-fashioned, fun-filled family entertainment," said Wally. She describes the skits and musical comedy as a "hoot and a holler."
One member of the cast is a grandnephew of a vaudevillian who entertained audiences in the Upper Valley. He will briefly explain the historic traditions.
The Stone Mill is located on the west side of Route 4A in Enfield, across from the Great Stone Dwelling and the core of the Museum complex. Soft summer breezes flow down Mount Assurance next to the Stone Mill. Guests will be able to watch the sun set over Mount Assurance.
The event benefits the Enfield Shaker Museum, which is open year round and offers a wide variety of programs for adults and children.
The Enfield Shaker Museum is located at 447 NH Route 4A in Enfield, about 5 miles from Exit 17 off I-89, and only 12 miles from Hanover. After taking Exit 17, turn right onto Route 4. After nearly 2 miles, the road will fork. Veer right onto Route 4A. Proceed about 3 miles, and the Enfield Shaker Museum's Stone Mill is on the right.
