Enfield Shaker Museum Hosts a Springtime Shaker Dinner Saturday, May 17, 6:30 p.m.

Enfield, NH – Enfield Shaker Museum is offering a Springtime Shaker Dinner, Saturday, May 17, 6:30 p.m. in the Museum’s elegant Great Stone Dwelling, built in 1841.

The menu includes Cheddar Cheese & Shaker Beer Soup, Chilled Baked Apples with Minted Vinaigrette, Brother Irving Greenwood’s Pot Roast, Boiled Potatoes, Steamed Spring Asparagus, and Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding with Crème Anglaise.

Chef Mickey Dowd graduated from the UNH Whittemore School of Business and Hotel Administration. Before settling in the Upper Valley, he worked in New York City as the Food & Beverage Director for the Conservatory Restaurant at the Mayflower Hotel on Central Park West and as the Assistant Director of Food & Beverage for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. He was the founder, owner and chef of Dowds Country Inn in Lyme and was the chef, owner and manager of the Alden Country Inn in Lyme. He is currently the chef, owner and manager of Mickey’s Roadside Café in Enfield. He has catered many events for the Enfield Shaker Museum, including the Business After Hours with the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce at the Museum.

The Museum refurbished the kitchen as part of a $1.1 million capital campaign. The Great Stone Dwelling is the Shakers’ greatest architectural achievement and was built to house nearly 100 Shaker Sisters and Brethren. Ammi Burnham Phillips, who later became the architect for the U.S. Treasury, designed the structure. He later designed Federal buildings throughout the country, and all of them are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For many years the Great Stone Dwelling was the tallest building north of Boston. The Shakers constructed the interior with high quality cabinetry to allow for efficient and commodious living.

Seating in the dining room is limited. Reservations are required. An admission charge of $30/member and $35/non-member includes a complimentary glass of wine. Checks and credit cards are accepted.

Guests also have the option of spending the night in the Great Stone Dwelling and taking a tour of the Museum’s historic properties the next day.

Enfield Shaker Museum’s Great Stone Dwelling and Museum Store are open Monday-Saturday, 10am – 4pm and on Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

Enfield Shaker Museum is located at 447 NH Route 4A in Enfield, across Mascoma Lake from downtown. Individuals may enter the west side of the Great Stone Dwelling facing the road, or on the east side, facing the lake.
