Volunteers are the life blood of the Museum. No matter what your skills or life experiences, the Museum can use your help. As a volunteer you will join an active and vibrant community of like- minded individuals all working to further the goals of the Museum. This spirit of community means that while you are helping the Museum, you will also be having fun, learning, and forming friendships with interesting people from all walks of life.

There are many programs in which you can participate as a Museum volunteer - for example:

  • Tour Guides - Would you like to meet interesting people and share your knowledge with the public? Consider becoming a tour guide; we provide all the training necessary.
  • Village Gardeners - Are you interested in the mysteries of herb gardening? Help Museum Herbalist Happy Griffiths maintain our spectacular Shaker Gardens as a Village Gardener, and learn the secrets of herb gardening as you do.
  • Demonstrating Craftspersons - Do you know a trade practiced by the Shakers? Would you enjoy sharing your skills and knowledge with others? If so, be a demonstrating craftsperson and help history come alive at the Museum.
  • Many other opportunities are available - We can use many other skills at the museum as well: office support, maintenance, landscaping, curatorial, historical research and event or exhibit development - just to name a few.
